Upcoming Maintenance & Proposed Improvements

Spring/Summer update

With summer just around the corner (?), our winter work programme is coming to an end. This has seen 18 re-vetted bunkers completed along with levelling of the 6^thmedal and 11^thtop tee and various turfing jobs around the course. Our attention has now turned to the natural bunkers, were we have reshaped and re-edged them, which has also seen the two fairway bunkers on the left of 15^threturned to natural looking bunkers.

Aeration to all parts of the golf course has been carried out, and hopefully over the coming months we will see the benefits with drier and firmer surfaces.

Our attention now turns to presenting the golf course in the best possible standard for the upcoming peak period. The rough, which was cut in early winter, is just starting to regrow and we now plan to attack some of the courser grasses and thin the rough out a little. Weeds are also starting to show their ugly heads and once into the growing season we will look to apply herbicide. The greens have been put through on a wetting agent programme which will run through the summer months (monthly application) to make them firmer and quicker, as well as to help them hold the correct amount of water to encourage the finer fescue. Monthly seeding and light topdressing applications will also take place.

The McGregor Trophy is just around the corner and my intentions are to produce firm, fast surfaces making the competitors think about positional play around the greens and off the tee.

The past seven months have flown by since starting in October and I want to say a huge thankyou to everyone for making me and my family very welcome to Trevose and Cornwall. My overriding aim over the coming years is to continue to improve the golf course and ultimately improve our position in the national course rankings – and rest assured I have many thoughts and ideas on how we can (and will) achieve this!

On another note I’d like to congratulate Neil Ivamy and his partner Emma on their upcoming marriage in May. We also welcome Steven Gunner as our seasonal greenkeeper for a six month period.
