Trevose
Golf and Country Club is ideally situated as a starting
point for some excellent excursions around North
Cornwall.
There
are some beautiful walks along the coastline following
the costal path, either north to Harlyn Bay - an
excellent beach particularly for children and only
a half hour walk away, or south to Watergate Bay.
By car you can explore the wild beauty of Bodmin
Moor - just twenty mile east of Trevose, with its
many species of moor and marsh birds.
Following
the coast, going north, a pleasant half hour's drive
will take you to the famous ruins of Tintagel Castle,
painted by numerous artists through the centuries,
which nestles in the lush green hills just across
from Port Isaac Bay.
Before Tintagel, however is Padstow with its renovated
harbour well protected from the Atlantic's winter
storms. It has many good shops, pubs and eating
houses.
Visit the beautiful St. Petroc's Church with
its early English tower, beautiful woodwork within
the church and its distinctive churchyard cross
and do not miss the splendour of Prideaux Place
in Padstow - an excellent example of Elizabethan
architecture.
Other
Activities that can be enjoyed outside the golf
club are many and varied. Surfing comes to mind
immediately with the North Cornwall coastline
being the most popular area in Britain for Malibu
and body surfing. (The image on the right was
taken in Constantine Bay.)
For sailing enthusiasts the estuary at Padstow
offers ample opportunity together with windsufing
and water-skiing. Horse riding and pony trekking
are also available locally and there is a first-class
stable at St. Merryn. To sum up, the sports one
can indulge in locally are unlimited and virtually
all interests can be catered for.
This also applies to the social side where there
are a number of local discos and clubs for teenagers,
plenty of good pubs, restaurants, cinemas and
the famous Minack Theatre some forty minutes drive
from Trevose.
The
exciting EDEN PROJECT is a living theatre of plants
and people based in a large crater, in which nestle
two vast greenhouses, (BIOMES). These spectacular
buildings house plants, crops and landscapes from
the humid tropics and warm temperate regions and
act as a backdrop to the temperate landscape,
the outdoor BIOME.
Voted Project of the Decade in March 2006 on
the eve of its fifth birthday, you will find the
EDEN PROJECT 4 miles east of St. Austell, signposted
from the A30, A390 and A391.
You can buy your entrance tickets from Reception
at the Club, at the EDEN PROJECT, or book on-line
at www.edenproject.com.
One need never be bored in Cornwall if you are
a non golfer, since there is plenty to occupy
one from fishing trips to visiting the many quaint
villages and paying a visit to the cathedral city
of Truro or even taking a day trip to the Scilly
Isles.
